Which group are you watching?
Demi-chan wa Kataritai
Feel free to leave comments below, either about the groups' releases, or if I have made an error anywhere, or if you would like to request your group to be added to the list.
I automatically list groups who post their releases on Tokyo-Tosho. If you don't post on there, it is unlikely I will find it.
Uh, I even bothered myself to compare other episodes with Notepad+.
NotAjin’s was pretty much just CR-barely-edit script with good typesetting.
I meant, people can actually see it at these screenshots.
You’d be surprised how often that is the case nowadays. Literally the only benefit of a fan”sub” (can we even still call it that?) group anymore is the added benefit of better typesetting, possibly lyrics/kfx, and better visual quality video.
In this case, NotAjin opted to dismiss and not do several of the signs that Crunchyroll did as seen above, and opted not to do kfx or even include romaji lyrics and as you can see the only changes are line-breaks, Sensei->teach, Sensei->Mr. etc. So unless you cared about the better typesetting of the few signs they actually chose not to just erase, there wasn’t any reason to wait for them weekly over just watching HS and a lot of anime fans realize this and unfortunately as a result of more and more people not waiting on fangroups anymore, these fangroups are dwindling. Because putting in effort and getting 1/100 the amount of viewers of a straight rip can sometimes be deafening.
In some cases, depending on the group, a TLC will catch and correct some translation issues and an editor may correct some consistency issues across the season, but the vast majority of what is put out these days is typically barely edited and those edits often consist of nothing more than moving or removing line-breaks and localizing honorifics to Mr. etc or just removing them with no equivalent replacement added back.
Actual fansubs is few and far between because there isn’t a whole lot of point in starting from scratch when an official script can be worked upon unless that script is just awful. Thus most original TL happens for movies, specials, and OVAs (if they even get done by someone not just throwing a Chinese script at GoogleTranslate) which typically don’t get official subtitles until/if they get a US release. In some cases now days you’ll see official English subtitles on Japanese Blu-rays though which is always nice for importing.
Or pretty much fansub don’t have any or don’t have translator at all (pretty much all new groups right now).
Even you can grab OP/ED lyrics easily from lyrics translation sites, edit it and call them yours.
