Which group are you watching?
Magi - The Kingdom of Magic
Feel free to leave comments below, either about the groups' releases, or if I have made an error anywhere, or if you would like to request your group to be added to the list.
I automatically list groups who post their releases on Tokyo-Tosho. If you don't post on there, it is unlikely I will find it.
Hello, everyone, H_B here. You might remember me pestering Holo about Fansub.co (and bugging other groups about specials/OVAs/movies/etc., but that’s a different story) here and on Doki.co. Guess he got tired of that 😛 and here i am, the second person (and hopefully not the last – see the announcement on main page) in the Fansub.co team. Goals are pretty simple, first we do the current season, then we finish the backlog. I won’t make any estimations but hopefully we’ll at least keep the backlog from increasing furthermore.
UPD: (^_^”)ゝ Aha-ha-ha.. haaaaa… Seems like i totally screwed up with fonts, that’s fixed now.
UPD2: Jesus, i really did a number on Magi. My bad. Seems like HS supplies script from 480p release for 720p one and converting it makes text small. Unfortunately, considering all my fixes i guess i have to reset the poll.
Hatsuyuki (60%, 6 Votes) LOL. Did they people who voted even know English!? There are some serious errors in the edits they made to CRs’ script!
So please enlighten us…
Please enlighten us!? Hatsuyuki’s “editor” for this show isn’t an editor! “To hold hand like this…”!? It’s “hands” not “hand”!!! “it’s good that’s we’ve…” !? “that’s” !? Where did this editor learn English!? Learn English first and then vote on English fansubs!
Just from this small sample size, you can see several bad edits and blatant errors.
4th screenshot: They changed the line, adding a an obvious error in the process – “good that’s we’ve come back, isn’t”
6th screenshot: “to hold hand like this” – As CR correctly had it in their script, it should be “hands”
7th screenshot: They changed “after seeing her memories” to “after being witness to her memories”. They changed a line that sounded perfectly natural and fitting for the character to something that sounded stilted and unnatural. How often would you hear a native English speaker say that in everyday conversation?
10th screenshot: I would argue that the use of “court” doesn’t fit his character at all. CR had it better with the more casual use of “make a move on”. Furthermore, why would you change “anyone” to “someone”?
Of course, the sample size provided here isn’t all that large, so it could be that Hatsuyuki, like plenty of groups often do, just made a few errors and were unlucky that this website selected those errors to display here. Unfortunately, after looking over the entire script more thoroughly, this is not the case. These screenshots show just a few of a multitude of errors and bad edits that riddle the entirety of Hatsuyuki’s script for this show. The edits show either a lack of understanding of the English language or a lack of care for the release. Either way, going with Hatsuyuki would mean accepting a script with more spelling/grammatical errors and more stilted, unnatural lines than you would find in the original CR release.
Sekinin or HS for this one, I’m afraid. Hatsuyuki’s editing on this show is really poor. Many of the lines were edited in such a way that they read worse than they originally did in the CR script, and in several instances, glaring errors have been introduced in the process. There’s no point editing a script if you’re just making it worse.
